About Us

Partners for girls Africa

Partners for girls Africa leadership training and rescue centre offers a safe learning environment for young women and girls ending early marriages and teen pregnancies, and youth leadership training in Busia County in the Western part of Kenya.Busia County is home to a large number of girls and young women who face significant challenges in accessing quality education. Early marriages and teen pregnancies are also prevalent in the region,which further exacerbates the problem. The region is located in Lake Victoria's environs and at the Kenya-Uganda border where people practice Farming, Fishing and cross-border trading as their main economic activities.

What are the causes of teenage pregnancy?

Approximately 90% of births to girls aged 15-19 in developing countries occur within early marriage where there is often an imbalance of power, no access to contraception and pressure on girls to prove their fertility. Pregnant girls often drop out of school, limiting opportunities for future employment and perpetuating the cycle of poverty. In many cases, girls perceive pregnancy to be a better option than continuing their education.
